“To remain sincere when darkness prevails,
To do the right thing where most would bail.
To stay strong, to not give way—
A silent war we fight each day.”

On April 22nd, 2025, a sudden and cowardly terrorist attack struck Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir. The place once known as a hotspot for tourists to enjoy soft breezes and woody trails, now resembles a haunting site of gloom. According to reports, at least 26 innocent lives were lost—25 Indian citizens and one Nepalese tourist—in a brutal ambush by terrorists posing as army personnel. Seventeen tourists were badly injured. These individuals had come to enjoy the bliss and beauty of the mountains but were met with a deadly bullet assault instead.

The Terror Group’s Claim and the Government’s Response

“Kashmir Resistance,” a not-so-well-known terror organization, believed to be linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, according to some media reports — has claimed responsibility for the attack, citing opposition to recent Indian policies regarding the region. In response, the Indian government has:

  • Suspended the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 with Pakistan.
  • Downgraded diplomatic ties, calling back envoys and closing a key border.
  • Revoked the visas of Pakistani nationals, ordering them to leave India within 48 hours.
  • Launched a nationwide manhunt to bring the terrorists to justice.

This horrific event has once again brought the global attention to India and Kashmir’s long-standing conflict. Once more, the nation is forced to confront heartless violence against innocent civilians.

A Poem Amidst the Ruins: The Silent Battle

Apart from politics and talks of imminent retaliation, what stands for the people of India is their ever-resilient spirit – battered but not beaten.

In the aftermath of the attack, here are a few verses to reflect on the ghastly incident as an Indian citizen:

We don’t need no banner waves, nor cheers,
Just quiet courage to get through dark days.
We must not falter, fear, or boast –
But stand united, with hearts engrossed.
Though hatred stirs and violence looms,
Our compassion quietly blooms.
It’s victory we will seek to claim,
And strength to face this evil game.

What Next?

This is not the occasion to glorify pain or put suffering on a pedestal. Instead, it is a time to recognize that worrying doesn’t solve anything. Yes, pain is real. The rage is real. But what’s important is learning not to surrender to fear or hopelessness.

The country has long remained dignified and decent with its neighbors even in indecent times. While demanding justice, let’s pray for the innocent deceased and injured. And let’s remain brave in spite of the cowardly bullets. Let’s hope the nation’s leaders take tactical and precise moves, hitting only what needs to be hit instead of triggering a full-scale war — which is exactly what the enemy wants.

We may be put to the test, but we will never rest. We will never be beaten. Jai Ho!
